The third meeting of the National Thematic Group (NTG) on migrant health in Tunisia marked a significant step forward in the MENAMigrantHealth project. From May 9 to 11, 2024, experts gathered in Hammamet, on the outskirts of Tunis, to provide input to the Migrant Health Country Profile tool (MHCP-t), a key component of the project’s second phase.
Building on the groundwork laid in previous meetings held in December and January, where the MHCP-t indicators were presented and reviewed with Tunisian national experts, this meeting was the final step in a process of extensive collaboration and international input. Throughout March and April, the MHCP-t underwent rigorous review by renowned international experts, whose technical feedback was instrumental in refining the themes of the tool.
The discussions took place over two days and fostered a constructive environment to reach a national consensus. A series of thematic and technical discussions took place, during which the adjustments needed to develop and adapt the MHCP-t tool were explored in depth. A strong consensus was reached on the changes to be made to the agreed information in the different areas of the tool. As a result, the Migrant Health Country Profile tool (MHCP-t) was reviewed, corrected and expanded and a final version of the questionnaire was adopted at the end of the meeting.
The meeting concluded with the definition of profiles of respondents who will participate in the pilot phase of testing the tool before its implementation in Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco.
This important milestone underlines the commitment of stakeholders to improve data collection and surveillance on migrant health in the MENA region.
