A preliminary investigation of health policies and practices around six topics and in each country is carried out. Specific topics included are: tuberculosis, maternal health HIV/viral hepatitis, malaria/NTDs, vaccine-preventable diseases, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health. This is followed by a qualitative study with civil society organisations and migrant communities with the aim of understanding the views of affected migrant communities around health, health care provision and vaccination service provision. Findings will determine which indicators will be used in the MENA Health Country Profile (MHCP-t) tool to facilitate data-based decisions in health care practices and policies.
Testing, evaluation and validation of the MHCP-t in Morocco, Tunisia, and Sudan. Through this process we will also explore the feasibility of delivering a new intervention in health systems, and will involve the implementation of a new system to collate real-time data and facilitate subsequent policy and service delivery change.
Training and mentorship of early and mid-career researchers to carry out this research and establish a network of health researchers, health care practitioners and policy-makers in the MENA region.
We will set up an international PhD programme between the University of Barcelona and universities in Morocco (Université Mohammed VI), Tunisia (Université de Sousse), and Sudan (Ghezira University).
